Huron-The Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) honored its outstanding December employee of the month, CNP's Rebecca McCaskell, at a department reception earlier this week.

McCaskell has worked at HRMC for more than five years and is currently a Resident Registered Nurse (CNP). The nominee is not a colleague, but the entire medical/surgical department.

Name: "Beca is a'complete team player', reliable and constantly surpassing her colleagues, patients, doctors, etc."

"Whether it's treating patients or passing dishes, she will lend a helping hand. She is not afraid to intervene immediately and ensure that all her patients receive the best continuous care," the nomination continued.

"Becca advocates sending her patients to higher levels of care when necessary, and spending time asking questions, investing time and resources to better help patients facing health crises, and sharing knowledge about care with others."

HRMC's "Outstanding Employee of the Month" award recognizes employees who surpass themselves and demonstrate the hospital's easy-going, helpful and knowledgeable values.

Employees can be nominated by other colleagues or patients or visitors who have witnessed outstanding service. The staff committees from various departments of the hospital select one employee each month, and at the end of the year select one outstanding employee of the year from the 12 monthly winners.

As an outstanding employee in December, McCaskell received a meal voucher from a local restaurant, professional and portrait photos, $50, a collar badge and a special parking space for one month.

McCaskell joined HRMC as a registered nurse in June 2016 and continued to work part-time. At the same time, she completed a Master of Science in Family Nurse Practice at South Dakota State University. McCaskell also holds a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of South Dakota. She is currently earning her wound care certification, so she can expand her role and help more people in the community.

McCaskell is from Huron and is the daughter of Wes and Shari Goehner. She lives in Huron with her husband Trevor, who works at Northwest Pipe Fittings, and their 23-month-old daughter Haelyn.

In her spare time, she likes to spend time with family and friends, as well as all things related to fitness. Now, she and her husband are also spending a lot of time preparing everything for the new house they are building!
